Surf Ballard

Ballard’s Very Own Surf and SUP Shop

Located on a prime spot, just steps away from the Puget Sound, Surf Ballard is known as Seattle’s premier surf and stand up paddle shop.

We have everything you need to take advantage of Washington’s unique waterways, whether you want to walk across the street and take a cruise on one of our stand up paddle boards or drive to the coast for a surf session.

We host a variety of surf related events, from surf movie nights and SUP races to barbecues with live music, and art openings. And, we now serve ice cream, coffee, raw juices, smoothies, chicha moradas, and Peruvian malasadas at Carmelitos, our food truck Winnebago, out front.

Need a lesson before getting wet? The instructors at our Washington Surf Academy offer a full roster of one-of-a-kind stand up paddle lessons and surf camps—and our WASUP Yoga stand up paddle yoga classes were the first in the entire state.

Meet the Owners

Andrew Drake

Andrew Drake has been surfing for over three decades, more than two of them spent in the Pacific Northwest. A competitive surfer with a growing list of awards to his name, he runs our Washington Surf Academy, where he teaches stand up paddle lessons on Shilshole, gives surf lessons on the Washington coast, and manages our WASUP Yoga stand up paddle yoga classes.

Jim Simpson

Originally from the inland surf mecca of Detroit, Jim has resided in the great state of Washington for 22 years. His love and appreciation for surfing came originally from the waters of Washington. The fact his mother lives on Oahu doesn’t hurt either. Jim is also part owner of Gracie Barra Seattle Jiu Jitsu.
